Narrator: Mavroudhes and the King were eating and drinking and while they were
doing that they started discussing the chastity of the maidens.
And Mavroudhes spoke to the king and told him.
Mavroudhes: “My sister if beautiful and very pure!”
King: “You have a sister who is beautiful and she is very pure! What do you bet
Mavroudhes that I will seduce her?”
Mavroudhes: “If you will seduce her, King, you may kill me but if she keeps her
chastity then I will take your kingdom.
”
King: “If I do not seduce her Mavroudhes, you take my kingdom.
”
Narrator: He grabbed Mavroudhes and locked him into prison.
He filled two dishes
with gold and two dishes with jewels and he sent the princes to take them to
Maroudhia’s door.

Mavroudhia: “Hey, who is there, who is it, who is knocking on my door? If you are a
passer-by, pass along, if a stranger go on your way, but if you are Mavroudhes, you
come inside.
